Two Weeks in Three Minutes

by Tasha in Pre-trip, Budgeting

There has been so much going on and so little time to write about it, and since time travel is not yet a lower class commodity, here are just a few of the awesome things that have been happening lately:

1. Super heavy duty travel research
The ladies at our local libraries (yes, you read that right - librar-ies) were gobsmacked as I checked out a whopping 27 chunky Lonely Planet guides. They are by far not our only resource - but 90% of bloggers agree when you're looking at the drawing board, you're looking for a Lonely Planet. I have one for every specific region we are travelling to, except Poland and Turkey, which is rather frustrating really as we are planning quite a bit of time in both Poland AND Turkey. The former I already have a good knowledge base on, but for Turkey I'm pretty much in the dark. If anyone has any awesome suggestions I am all ears.

2. Closely related to point one - we have narrowed down our itinerary.
Now this point will soon be followed by a post of its own, but ask any intrepid traveller-to-be where in the world they want to go. Then wait patiently as they list off a minimum of 8 seperate locales. Its no secret that both Alex and I have eyes bigger than our stomachs, but it's a lot harder than it seems to look at the big world map and pick a dot to start on. Our current plan (or no-plan-plan in the more common Tasha-venacular) has been carefully selected to fit within our budget, timeframe and logistics. It will hardly be the last draft, however it's ever so closer to where we will actually go than we have had so far.

3. Road trip! -
Due to my gorgeous and bride-to-be cousin's big day, we get to roadtrip to Sydney in two weeks! Yes, unfortunately, that was in two weeks, not for two weeks, however both me and Lex are roadtrip junkies and have been working hard to set in motion all the pieces that need to fall into place for this trip to work out. Hopefully in the small time provided (that we could get off work) we can see all our awesome friends, our family, our favourite Sydney hangouts (and document them for you - our faithful readers) AND be privvy to the most romantic wedding in a century. All in four days. Totally doable. I think.

4. Working....doh!
With Alex starting his amazing new job, and me, the ever-tireless Tasha, picking up lots of extra hours, we have been so very limited in non-work-related time. This is a double-edged sword as on one side - more work means more money, which means more saving, which is awesome. On the other side - more work means less seeing each other, and means less writing to you, which is not so awesome. But speaking of extra monies...

5. We have saved over $12000!
Which is amazing all things considered. And now that our financial situation is even more stable we are watching that dollar amount go up and up every week. But for now we can sit back and revel in the fact that despite some major setbacks, we have reached the goal we set for ourselves - two weeks ahead of schedule! High Five Savings!

So that has been our life for the last few weeks. Yes it's absolutely enthralling, isn't it? And yes we have bigger and better posts on the way, including a birdseye view on our four day roadtrip extravaganza.

Meanwhile if you're champing at the bit for good, quality travel blogging - check out this brilliant article on advanced couchsurfing tips. Although if you haven't been paying attention and have no idea what couchsurfing is I would recommend you look here and here first.
