Define Irony

by Tasha in Pre-trip, Epigrams and Interludes

Irony... it's a funny thing

You find yourself in a comfortable, stable life. After years of struggle you are ahead of the game, you have some debt, but also a little savings, full time jobs, a stable marriage and finally a decent apartment. Life is...or at least should be...good!

The days wear on, life becomes a merry-go-round of work, home, work, home. Your fun job becomes a chore, your cosy apartment - suffocating. Everything you once loved about your life now feels like it's holding you back.

Yeah, irony's a real hoot.

So, you become proactive, pay off your credit, save a good little nest egg for travelling, start clearing out your apartment, give your notice, and it's so exciting...until you realise that you are now so tied down by the plan that you made to actively avoid planning your life.

Your no-plan has become a leaving-plan, and a travel-plan, and you are so tied to the timeline of THAT plan - that you are once again unhappy, biding your time, waiting for the kickoff point when you can FINALLY start living your life.

Irony - you heartless bitch.

This of course is my longwinded way of admitting, no, SHOUTING, that we are going to screw the plan! We are leaving early, heading off on a roadtrip round good ol' New Zealand before our flight to Bangkok. And since we are leaving early, we are now trying to smush all our house clearing, and travel prep and wrapping up affairs into three short months...So we have gone from amazingly overprepared, to sprinting like a sports star to catch up.

But thats the kind of irony I dont mind.

Pretty sure I'm gonna be singing a mash up of Xena/Lord of the Rings/Jurassic Park for the next 3 months.
