Something different this way comes

by Tasha in Pre-trip

The observant among you may have noticed a slight change to the site. Go ahead, have a look, I'll wait.

Can you see it?

Look closer...

Yes that's right, we have changed our blog name! Yes it is huge news! I'm so happy you're as excited as we are!

Yes I know the old name was pretty good - I'll miss it too! But you have to admit - the new one is pretty damn good.

Oh? You want to know why we changed it?

That's a fair question. As we start to hit the 3 month mark into our saving, and blogging, and planning, certain truths become apparent. When a friend asked me initially - three months ago - why we wanted to travel, we told him what we knew to be true. That travel is something we have always wanted to do, and we are taking the time to do it now, before we get so caught up in life's methodology and miss out. And looking back, it was definitely true at the time, but now, we have let ourselves realise our dreams of travel don't have to be dreams, they can be reality. Of course it takes a lot of dedication and hard work - just like any dream, but we can get there. That thought itself can be as liberating as swimming naked in the Danube - and much less chilly.

Brrrrr! Freezy!
We should live the lives that inspire us. What is it that inspires you? Is it opening a cute little bakery - with pink frosting and sprinkles? Is it refurbing that vintage car you've drooled over for years? Or is it finishing (or starting) your studies to get qualified in that thing you've always wanted to do? Why should we settle for anything less than the lives that we want - especially if the only thing standing in our way is motivation, and dedication.

So looking back at my friends question, I think I've changed my answer. I don't want to travel to get out my inner ya-yas before moving on to a more civilized life. I want travel to be the next stage of my life. To be my teacher, my boss, my inspiration. And what ever happens, wherever we end up is where we are meant to be. Our work, our careers, aren't what we are heading towards, they are what get us there. This is no longer a little adventure for us. This is us trying to fly - and falling with style.
