The Adventures of Bessie

by Tasha in New Zealand, In Transit

Kia Ora! With this week rapping up our ramblings though the North Island I realise we have been extremely slack in updating for you guys at home. Its true for most of our time here getting a decent WiFi signal has proven quite difficult. Turns out trying to get a WiFi signal from a small camper-van is frustrating, non reliable and ultimately expensive. However we had a lot of fun in our little van, which I am so glad we decided to rent for a week because it meant we could change our plans rapidly, and check out little shops and landmarks we wouldn't have seen otherwise. So let me introduce you to our (very-temporarily) new member of the family....Bessie!

Okay I know - Bessie is a weird name for a camper. But the thing moves like an over-sized cow! (which we were coincidentally driving past at the time). Ultimately, it came down to Bessie, Daisy or Buttercup. And to be honest the later two sound too girly. Our Bess may have been green and purple but she hauled some serious ass when she wanted to.

It was a pretty cool set up with only one major flaw - In order to make up the back into a bed you had to stand outside - in which it was often muddy and rainy. So that was fun. Also you couldn't drive with the bed down so there was no lazy shortcut where you just leave the bed down all the time. But it all worked out pretty sweet. Especially in Tauranga where a very rainy day meant a day in our backseat bed watching Simpsons.

After saying goodbye to Bessie, we have made our way down to Wellington through Taupo and Napier. We still have the best part of a week here so expect more updates soon. As always you can always find our updated photos on our flickr page as well as sporadic updates over on facebook
