10 Things I've Learned About New Zealand

1. Pie is awesome

2. It may be small, but it takes a long time to get anywhere

3. No minimum purchase amounts for EFTPOS

4. Supermarkets rock!

Walking into a kiwi supermarket is like walking into Willy Wonka's chocolate factory... They have live mussels in a little tank under a sprinkler! And a deli case stocked with ready-made meals! And aisles and aisles of alcohol! And free samples of said alcohol! This may not mean much to everyone, but trust me. An aussie supermarket is a food store. A kiwi supermarket is an event.


5. Nearly all backpackers are german or french

And they are some of the coolest people you can meet!

6. Melbourners apparently speak kiwi

Or british. We got mistaken for being locals or increasingly from the uk (which actual brits found hilarious), more often than not, just from our accents. I always thought we aussies had one of the worst accents, and apparantly we do - but we just don't sound like aussies!


7. It's not that cold

8. Okay maybe sometimes it gets cold...

9. Friken hell its cold!

10. Kiwis are the southern hemispheres Canadians

Seriously! The ruggedly beautiful country that sits happily unnoticed in its more obnoxious neighbour's shadow? Check. Some of your favourite movies/tv shows were probably shot there? Check. Filled with the nicest, most polite and friendliest people you'll ever meet? Check. Until we spend some time in Canada, I can't tell you which country claims the world title, but trust me, it'll be close.
